This week we started our electives. My group is "STOMP". STOMP is all about using body percussion and found "instruments". We had a lot of fun for our first session.

Seniors

Next week the Senior school begin their electives. I'm taking a group for "Stomp". Stomp is a mix of dance and body percussion and can include found sounds. I'm really looking forward to working with this group. Check out these videos to see some of the types of things we might be working on.

Seniors

Music started back for the seniors this week. Years 7 and 8: Their focus is on creating a Sound Story and using Graphic Notation. They began with learning the song "Kiwi" They are also learning to play the recorder and will be participating in the Recorder Karate challenge. Years 4 - 6: Their focus is on Graphic Notation. They used symbols to create vocal sounds and created a piece of music with a partner.They also revised the notes they have learnt to pluck and learnt new songs. Rooms 7 and 8 learnt "Angel Band" and Room 9 "Sea Medley".

Juniors

Music started back this week. The Juniors are creating Sound Stories. Rooms 1 and 2 have been the first to use our beautiful new xylophones.

Next week we begin our Maori Game Rotations. I am luckily enough to be teaching Poi which I love. Room 7 have been making a class set of poi for all the groups to use.

Room 7 have been writing reflections about the dance they have learnt this term.

Everyone

Today Pagan from the Royal New Zealand Ballet came to our Duffy Role Model Assembly. She brought ballet point shoes, flat shoes and jazz shoes to show us as well as material from costumes. She also told us that as well as being a dancer some of the others jobs are costume designers, set designers and stage hands. She told us how the dancers had to train for 3 years and begin their days at 9.30 not finishing until 6pm. What a long day!

Juniors

This week the Junior School were inspired by the New Zealand flag. They looked at the shapes of the Southern Cross, Union Jack and the blue background of the flag. They then used scarves to explore the movement of the NZ flag flying on the school flag pole.
