Maori Game Rotation 2

This is the Poi group for our second round of Maori Game Rotation. We learnt to spin and slap the poi. We learnt E rere taku poi and started to learn Purereuhua.

Room 5: Recorder Karate

Congratulations to the lunchtime gradings for today. Well done Tiare, Tim and Jasmine. Tiare graded for her white belt and her yellow belt. Keep up the good work.

Room 5: Recorder Karate

We had some more gradings today to white belt. Remember that you can grade before school after the first bell like Juanita and Saruja did.

Rooms 5 & 6: Soundscapes

Rooms 5 & 6 have been using a song called "Kiwi" as motivation for creating music. They created a rhythmic ostinato in groups using body percussion and they played rhythmic ostinatos on percussion instruments to accompany the melody.

Rooms 3 & 4: Melodic Ostinatos

Rooms 3 and 4 have been learning to play melodic ostinatos to go with a story called "The Bird and the Elephant". They are also learning about high and low.

Stomp Elective

We had a great time at Stomp today. We were motivated by a STOMP piece called "Newspapers" and used the ideas to create music using boxes. We also began working on "Basketballs".

New Xylophones!

Yay! They new soprano xylophones and alto metallophones have finally arrived. I can't wait to use them in class tomorrow with rooms 3,4, 5 and 6.

Room 7's Sound Story

Room 7 used a picture called "The Jungle Journey" as motivation to create a sound story. They brainstormed sounds and then decided what instrument went best with that sound.

Room 8's Graphic Notation

Room 8 have been learning about graphic notation. They created their own and then turned their music into a whole class piece.

Ukulele Assessment

Rooms 7,8 and 9 are busy working on their ukulele assessment piece. They have chosen a piece of music for the level of plucking they are at. Their assessments will be in week 7. Good luck.

Performance Groups

PBS Voices are now preparing for Kids for Kids festival. The new show has just had it's seventh show. Our show is November 4.

The Singing Squad are busy preparing for Jam Bus in week 7. They are singing Belle Mama as a round with Juanita and Tiare's help. Jorja is also helping to teach the harmony for Imagine If.

Juniors

Room 3 and 4 have been learning about playing instruments loud and soft and fast and slow. Today they were playing along to Si'i Lolo. The drum was to be played slow like a tortoise and the maracas and egg shakers fast like a hare.

Congratulations to the 7 people (Jessie, Gozan, Halatoa, Sebastian, John and June) who graded to yellow belt today in Recorder Karate today. Also well done to Meng Chun and Thomas who graded to orange belt.

This week for electives the "Stomp" group worked on their body percussion pieces they created last week with Mr Strang and they used buckets to create different rhythms.
